Springfield, Illinois (PRWEB) August 22, 2014

The Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC) and Lincoln Land Community College Workforce Development have partnered to host a series of manufacturing-relevant seminars in Springfield this fall. The event series will give manufacturing organizations from across the region the opportunity to receive hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of formats.

For years, we have been committed to providing relevant, hands-on training activities to small and mid-sized manufacturing firms across the state, said Amy Fitzgerald, IMEC Marketing Manager. It was the right time for us to bring an array of flexible sessions to companies in central Illinois, and fortunately, our partners at Lincoln Land have provided an amazing, state-of-the-art venue at the Workforce Careers Center in Springfield for us to bring it all together.

Beginning with an August 27th kick-off luncheon titled Building the Roadmap: An introduction to a Lean, Quality-focused Culture, manufacturers will learn about the basic concepts of a lean operation including the involvement of the workforce and leadership, as well as the steps to develop a quality-centric roadmap to continuous improvement.

For a deeper dive into lean manufacturing, the September 24th Lean Manufacturing Overview with Simulation (or Lean 101) combines comprehensive classroom instruction with the simulation of a production facility. The basic concepts of lean manufacturing and the tools and methodology necessary to implement lean on the shop floor are demonstrated. This learn-do technique, over four shifts, illustrates the cause and effect relationships for each of the lean tools presented.

Then to kick-off manufacturing month in Illinois, IMEC and LLCC will host the Continuous Improvement Series beginning October 3rd. The series will be held every Friday for six weeks and include topics such as Lean Leadership, Change Management, Value Stream Mapping, 5S/Workplace Organization, Quick Changeover, Cellular/Flow Manufacturing, Pull/Kanban Systems, and Total Productive Maintenance. By experiencing the six course simulations in the CI series, participants will have the knowledge, tools and application examples required to begin a lean transformation.

Interested companies may register for a single event or take advantage of all sessions in Springfield. Registration and pricing for the individual events are available on the http://www.imec.org/Events.cfm webpage and listed by date. For additional information, please contact IMEC marketing at 309-677-2977 or email afitzgerald(at)imec(dot)org.
